I’m not sure where I’d be without cooking and baking at the moment! I’ve made 2 batches of cookies, 4 batches of cakes and 1 batch of tiffin in the last 5 days. It’s just such a beautiful thing to spend time doing

as I watched my mum clearing a flowerbed this afternoon, and as she did so, explain to me what she was doing and how to get the plants strongest and at their most beautiful, I was just reminded of how much it reflects my life…and how God has and is cutting back my dead branches, and even perfectly healthy ones, because in the long run, they won’t get me anywhere…

I used to think that Autumn was my favourite season…but having seen the the trees and flowers blossom over the past month makes me realise I can’t possibly choose between them

I’d always known it was a really precious film for me. because although my life isn’t as beautiful as hers always seems to be…God has said that my inner life is designed to reflect it perfectly.

I went through a stage recently where I wasn’t able to watch ‘You’ve got Mail’ (Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks) because it made me feel uncomfortable. it was as though I couldn’t quite see my restless heart ever looking that way; as much as I wanted to.

Nothing I have done or said or created has meant that I have settled once again into that quiet heart attitude. But it is here, once more, keeping me company and making me laugh. because with it, comes my deepest understanding of God’s heart.

I was listening to s club 7′s song ‘never had a dream come true’ today, an activity which I have no reason to be ashamed of !

so many thoughts and parallels Jesus, me, worship. I can’t let it go ~ I’m realising now…it’s where my heart is and where it has always been. In music and my life reflecting what I sing…living and loving. I’m beginning to see.

the very hungry caterpillar

On Fridays my mum and I usual go and do something together because she has the day off work. This week we went for pancakes at John Lewis and were talking about exciting things we could do for all-age worship. I have such an exciting idea that we could do about ‘the very hungry caterpillar’ with different corners of the room with different foods that he has in the book. Each food will be something like ‘testimony’ corner and things. And I’d like to have a ‘chinese dragon’ style caterpillar that we get the kids to make that they can parade around in the service.

The theme will be ‘munching on the goodness of God’.

My mum asked if I’d come to their all age worship worship meeting tomorrow evening.

A tiptoe towards…life…

another piece of patchwork

Life takes a lot of learning, and not for a moment do I pretend that I have any answers or much firm evidence for why I do what I do.
Other than His truth. His word. His love.

As I continue this journey of adding new pieces of material to my music and worship patchwork, some of the pieces are harder to see and touch and be apart of than others. And today I must choose to stand and be present for one of those such pieces. Knowing that, although I may find tears from having entered that place – so full of memories and depth, I’ll find beauty and freedom in them.

I woke up this morning and knew that I’d chosen to wake up in His arms – and stay there for the rest of the day,

I pray that wherever you are when you read this, you find comfort in knowing that He does love us – however we feel and wherever we’re at.

saying ‘yes’ will mean a mess

I’ve been asking myself the question, in the last two days, ‘When does my snow fall?’.

Have you noticed how the world seems to stop, slow and really think about it’s actions when the snow falls? How all of a sudden our decisions have a new weight to them – it actually MATTERS how we spend our time, where we go, how adventurous we are, how passionate we are about what we’d planned to do, and when we come home from those things.

When I think of leading worship, or singing in the worship team, on some days it will be a sacrifice to do it; because I’ll be giving more, perhaps, than I feel ‘safe’ about giving. Sometimes it will be a sacrifice not to; am I doing it because of all the ‘shoulds’ in my head. ‘I should do it…otherwise I’m not a real musician, I’m not really commited, I’m not really faithful.’

I read the title of this post on ‘A Holy Experience’ which is a blog by a lady called Ann Voscamp, who’s daily writing has really inspired me over the last year. God calls me to say ‘Yes’, yes to being me. Yes to allowing my beauty to show. Yes to trusting Him, and not doing things impulsively out of fear or obligation.

But saying ‘yes’ will mean a mess. A patchwork. A scrapbook full of ups and downs – of beauty and strength and muddles. Because in the meantime, Jesus will be romancing me - and love is a very messy business! But with that mess comes freedom…and life. The way it was meant to be.

Alongside me, keep listening to His heart in these quiet, snow-covered days. He really does loves us

autumn thoughts

Wow, this is really exciting!

I’m a classroom assistant at an infant school, and today I went on an Autumn Walk with my class. The adventure was, to ‘find signs of Autumn’ and take photos, or collect some treasure. It was gorgeous to see them running, arms and legs flying, to explore this field…genuinely in awe of everything they could see! We had lots of fun kicking leaves and imagining who had been cracking the acorns to make them split.

I think Autumn is my favorite season. I love the richness of colours, the beautiful sunsets and the way the sun makes the trees glow warm. The spices, the gingerbread, the abundance of harvest. It’s like life, in all it’s warmth, fullness and community arrives, in this month when winter is just around the corner. People are warmed by their memories of summer, the places explored, the people they’ve met…and a beautiful amount of long, late night conversations are had over mugs of tea and big pieces of cake. Storing away those memories for the months ahead which may not always be filled with such beauty.

I hope you’ll find things on these pages that bring you the equivalent warmth and sunniness of warm, home-made gingerbread
